Chat About: Qianyu Fu & Miao Wang is an exhibition in conjunction with the event Chat About: Yves Cao, Qianyu Fu, Lauren Rooney, and Miao Wang, April 26, 2024.
Qianyu Fu is a multidisciplinary artist who started practicing in China and continued as she moved to Chicago. She uses installation, sculptor, photography, and film to explore themes about the definition of home, identity, and the perception of truth in social-political contexts. In the attempt to grasp how living in different cultural contexts affects her awareness of truth, Qianyu’s current work engages with construction materials and found objects by assembling objects with replicas to question the precarity of contemporary human existence.
Miao Wang is currently a second-year graduate student in the Department of Visual Arts at The University of Chicago. She was born and raised in China and has resided in Chicago since 2011. She received her BA in Art History from The University of Illinois at Chicago in 2016. She works fervently to create work that bridges desire with obligation. On a surface level each work remains abstracted and amorphous, and on a material level remains educational and experimental.
This exhibition is part of the 2023–24 Chat About x CWAC Exhibitions series. Chat About is a student-run open-critique hosted by graduate students and supported by the Department of Visual Arts and the Department of Art History. Beginning in 2024, Chat About collaborates with CWAC Exhibitions on exhibitions in conjunction with some Chat About events.
