The 2024 iteration of Publishing Your Work(shop) was facilitated by Karen Levine, Executive Editor for the art and ancient studies lines at the University of Chicago Press, Victoria Barry, Senior Editorial Associate, University of Chicago Press, and Professor Christine Mehring.
Publishing Your Work(shop): Images for Articles and Dissertations is open to all members of the UChicago and Northwestern art history communities interested in and preparing to publish images in articles, dissertations, and beyond. It will offer a comprehensive look at strategies for navigating decisions about permissions, embargoes, and more, along with practical resources for selecting and preparing images for publication, including:
- A look at fair use, copyright, and permissions for art and architecture images for your own photographs and images from other sources
- Assessing image sources and image quality, approaches to editing your field images, and creating custom images that help visualize and articulate your research.
- An introduction to image captions, citational ethics, and other ethical considerations for publishing and circulating images
- Personal archiving strategies that can help manage the logistics of publishing images
